According to Metro, the prominent supermarket chain had a poster display of Steve McQueen’s multi award-winning film 12 Years A Slave, coupled with a life-size mannequin dressed in attire that resembles that of the film’s subject Solomon.

It was brought to the public’s attention when a Twitter user posted a picture of it and, of course, it received much condemnation.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “We can only apologise. It’s been taken down from the Heyford Hill store and clearly should never have gone up in the first place.”
