‘Standard’ Supports United Kingdom Kenya Achievers Award

Top artistes will entertain the cream of the Kenyan Diaspora at the 2013 annual UK Achievers awards ceremony in London on Saturday, 14 December.

International celebrity artist Kenny Thomas and Richard Blackwood are billed to appear at the evening being held at the Bloomsbury Holiday Inn Hotel in central London.

Comedian Richard Blackwood will add flavour to the evening. Role models The event, supported by The Standard Media Group, will attract close to 800 guests who will be celebrating Kenyan Diaspora’s role models and the country’s 50th independence anniversary.

The guests of honour at the event are Simon Kachapin, Governor of West Pokot; Ms Zipporah Kurgat, Nandi women’s representative currently in London and Kenya National Union of Teachers Chairman Wilson Sossion. Ten UK-based Kenyans will be honoured on the night for their achievements at the highest level in various fields including business, media, academician, sport, artist, entertainer, community champion, unsung hero, Kenyan inspirational figure and for the first time, a Jubilee award for a Kenyan aged 50 with a proven achievement.

Highlight contributions Winners will be chosen on the basis of six days of voting by the diaspora members. Organiser Kenneth Mathiu told The Standard On Saturday that the event would not only reflect the achievements of the diaspora in the UK but also highlight their contributions to the development of Kenya. “Kenny Thomas is also due to release a new album on the night of the awards,” he said.

Guests will also have a chance to win a Kenya Airways return ticket to Nairobi or a romantic night at the luxurious Holiday Inn Bloomsbury in central London.
