Kenya Airways will unveil from October 1, 2014 a new and exciting baggage policy across its entire network that significantly increases free baggage allowance in all classes.

These changes will allow majority of the carrier’s guests to enjoy up to 64 kilograms of free check-in baggage in Premier World and 46 kilograms in Economy cabin. Additionally, guests will also be allowed to bring more weight on board as hand luggage. The current allowance of 10kgs has been revised upwards to 12kgs in all classes.

The airline becomes the 1st carrier in Africa to fully adopt piece concept baggage policy moving away from the weight concept. Kenya Airways’ Commercial Director Gerard Clarke said the new baggage policy is meant to innovatively address the changing needs of passengers.

“Today’s passenger is tech-savvy and in most cases requires more cabin baggage allowance to cater for their smart gadgets. The increase in free checked-in baggage allowance is also in response to feedback from our guests and reaffirms our commitment to constantly delight our guests by aligning our services to suit their preferences and needs,” Mr. Clarke added.

These changes come as Kenya Airways steps up its fleet renewal programme that has seen it acquire modern aircrafts with state-of-the-art features such as the B787 Dreamliner and 777-300ER aircrafts. The aircrafts are aimed at delivering an unmatched experience to passengers.

The newly opened ultra-modern Terminal 1A at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi exclusively for KQ and partners offers more capacity and allows the airline to handle more baggage through put.

In addition to this, the airline recently activated a Mobile Check-In service that allows customers to check in for their flights using any internet-enabled mobile device.
