A kick-off event with prominent supporters, students and participants took place at the Vienna “Museumsquartier”. As part of the event, a house of bricks was jointly built, symbolizing the school house in Kenya. “The opportunity to go to school, is in Austria taken for granted and as nothing special. The possibility to provide an education and to enable life opportunities to live independently is one of the overarching goals of the project”, said Federal Chairman Daniel Perschy. “We are often unaware of how it really is in other parts of the world to go to school and get an education.”

100 € per student

10,896.15 EUR in Austria is channelled into the education of an individual student per year. In Kenya, a student must make do with a paltry 98.61 EUR. From secondary school students must pay school fees something which many parents can hardly afford which explains the small number of schools across the country.

A total of 100,000 EUR will be collected for the construction of Mpirani Primary School. The funds will be collected with the help of students in Austria through individual charity projects at schools or in their own neighbourhoods. In addition, there will also be on our website and on the Project Facebook page options for uncomplicated donations.

The school will comprise eleven classrooms, three kindergarten classes, toilet facilities for girls, boys and teachers, a staff room and an office for the Headmaster. The Mpirani Primary School is located in Kilifi District, the second poorest district in Kenya, which is just north of Mombasa. The school is led and managed locally by the Tyrolean Association.
