2013 Stockholm Marathon: Kenya’s Stephen Chelimo Finishes 2nd

Kenya’s Stephen Chelimo crosses the finish line at the 2013 Stockholm Marathon

For the second time (2011, 2013), Shumi Gerbaba Eticha (ETH) won the Stockholm Marathon crossing the finish line at 2:16:13. Kenya’s Stephen Chelimo finished 2nd and Endale Tekileab (ETH), 3rd.

The women marathon was won by Isabellah Andersson (SWE) who bagged a record 5th win for the home crowd at 2:33:46. Halima Hassen Beriso (ETH) takes 2nd and Frida Lunden (SWE) managed third over Kenya’s Salina Kosgei.

The Stockholm Marathon is an annual marathon arranged in Stockholm, Sweden since 1979. It serves as the Swedish marathon championship race. The Ultimate Guide to International Marathons ranks the Stockholm Marathon as the best marathon in the world.

This year around 21,500 participated in the 35th Stockholm Marathon and they were greeted at the finish line in the 1912 Olympic Stadium in the Stockholm city.

Kenya’s ambassador to Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway Dr. Joseph Sang sent out a congratulatory tweet (below) right from the finish line.
